| A resident of Tulancingo, Mexico, wades through knee-deep water after the region was flooded by rains from Hurricane Dean earlier this year. |
VILLAHERMOSA, Mexico – Food and water supplies are running short for more than 500,000 residents of Mexico’s southern state of Tabasco following days of heavy rains and widespread flooding.
Much of the state capital, Villahermosa, is still underwater and Mexico’s President Felipe Calderón is calling this the worst natural disaster in the country’s history.
So far, Operation Blessing has supplied more than 6,400 gallons of water to disaster victims and is sending a cargo container filled with tons of food and blankets to the devastated region.
In partnership with Water Mission International, OBI is also flying in several water purification units to provide clean water to thousands and is coordinating with a local transportation business to distribute truckloads of relief product.
