| Families in Cusco abandoned their homes as muddy river water flooded the region. |
CUSCO, Peru - With two weeks of heavy rains, the resulting swollen, rushing rivers of Peru quickly became a destructive force.
More than 4,000 homes were destroyed, 14,000 acres of crops and farmland flooded, and bridges wiped out.
Landslides and flooding threatened the lives of many residents in the Cusco region, and according to officials, have affected more than 23,000 Peruvians.
“People were talking about entire communities that were destroyed by the water and the victims who are mourning,” said an OB staff worker in Peru. “Operation Blessing went immediately to Cusco to give help to the victims.”

| OB Peru quickly came to the aid of flood victims by providing temporary shelter, clean drinking water, mattresses, and blankets. |
Working together with local churches and members of the regional government, Operation Blessing relief teams began evaluating the hardest-hit areas and helped families salvage what belongings they could from their flooded homes.
Operation Blessing brought relief aid to families in the Pichingoto community who had lost everything, distributing mattresses, blankets, and clean drinking water.
Teams also established a temporary shelter in Urubamba to house flood victims, including families from the devastated community of Yucay.
