families in a relief camp in Nowshera, Pakistan. |
NOWSHERA, Pakistan – Trying her hardest, Aalia* pushed and struggled to reach the front of
the line.
An Operation Blessing truck full of hot food had just arrived to a quarry in Nowshera, now a relief camp for hundreds of families forced to flee to higher ground to escape the devastating floods.
Within minutes, a crowd of
children and adults had formed
behind the truck. Squeezing in
as tightly as they could, hungry
children reached for their portion.
All except Aalia.
She was smaller than the others,
and every time she tried to enter
the crowd, someone pushed her
back out again. Distraught and
almost in tears, the hungry little
girl backed away from the pack.

| Operation Blessing
distributed 2,000 packets of cooked food that day to many children just like Aalia. |
Operation Blessing’s Kumar
Periasamy noticed Aalia and took a bag of food over to her.
“She almost ate through
the plastic because she was so
hungry,” he recalled.
“The food we gave these
children was a real blessing,” he
added. “For most of the families,
this was the only meal they would
have for that day.”
In all, Operation Blessing
distributed 2,000 packets of
cooked food that day, and through
a partnership with Shelter Now
International, was able to feed the
community several more times.
“As I was leaving the camp I
saw smiling faces,” Kumar said.
“They were waving their hands
in appreciation of what we had
done for them. It has been a great
blessing to touch so many lives.”
