PANGASINAN, Philippines – Nearly every time a typhoon hits the Philippines, Mary and Edwin’s community floods.
“We get used to it,” she said.
When Super Typhoon Megi struck, Mary gathered their five children and headed for an evacuation shelter. As the Operation Blessing teams distributed relief supplies, Mary received hers with a warm smile.
Despite living on an income of less than $5 a day, Mary and her husband Edwin never give up hoping for better days for their family.

| Mary and her children were one of thousands of families to receive a relief kit and other assistance from Operation Blessing in the wake of Typhoon Megi.

“If there’s a sunny day, there’s also a rainy day,” Mary said when she was asked what keeps her going. “Your presence in this evacuation center is an indication that our rainy day will soon end.”
Operation Blessing is distributing relief kits that include sleeping mats and blankets, feeding communities, and providing medical care as well as trauma counseling. Already more than 14,000 people have benefited from OBI’s disaster relief efforts.
