| OB teams bring a supply of water to displaced tsunami victims living in shelters. |
Report from the field: OBI teams share their firsthand, eye-witness accounts of the relief efforts in Japan
SHIOGAMA, Japan – We arrived to Sendai and began a distribution of relief supplies at a school serving as a shelter for displaced families. Families are living in classrooms; many have lost everything, including their homes.
Help disaster victims now
Today we delivered food and water to 250 people living in the school shelter. We’re now ramping up to get supplies to the area in a big way and are really well positioned as we are the only foreign NGO working in this city of 60,000. I met with the mayor today and he was very welcoming. Supplies are low to nonexistent in the city.

| Families who lost their homes to the quake and tsunami have taken shelter in local schools. |
We are safe in a church 55 miles north of the reactor, but are still cautiously monitoring the situation and can evacuate further north if needed. The team consists of me and Don who has been a huge blessing with his translation skills and local contacts. We are both tired, hungry, and cold, but feel honored to be on the frontline of this disaster.
The destruction is mind numbing. Tomorrow we will venture further north to buy more supplies for Shiogama. In the meantime we have contacts sourcing more water in the South to send up. Supplies are very hard to find and it’s now snowing heavily.
Please keep praying for us and the families who have been displaced.
