Last year, Rich Products Corporation increased their contributions to OBI by more than 9 percent in order to keep up with the rising food demand.

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – In just 6 months, Operation Blessing's requests for food and assistance has skyrocketed 343 percent.

"Many people who were, up until a year ago, firmly in the middle class are now struggling to feed their families," said OBI President Bill Horan. "With the current economic downturn, there has been significant belt-tightening felt by all Americans."

Since OBI secures 100 percent of its food donations from businesses and corporations, and not from the federal government, finding ways to fill the gap has been challenging.

Helping meet the needs are donors such as Rich Products Corporation, who, despite other corporations' decisions to cut back on donations, has actually increased their contributions more than 9 percent last year in order to keep up with the rising demand.

"In these tough economic times, we all understand the tightening on personal budgets and the sacrifices that need to be made in order to make ends meet," said Britni Capps, OBI's procurement and corporate relations manager. "We are grateful for committed companies such as Rich Products, who has been a supporter of Operation Blessing's Hunger Relief Program for more than 13 years."

That kind of support is what helps keep OBI's Hunger Strike Force (HSF) fleet on the road, transporting a weekly average of 2 million pounds of food and relief supplies to a network of 120 community-based partners. The food is then distributed to roughly 4,400 local food pantries and church groups nationwide.
