Daniel, Faith and their children were running short on food before they discovered Bread of Life. Now, the family has the support they need and enough food to make it through the hard times. |
NEWPORT, Pa. – For years Dan had worked in the construction trade. He had worked his way to project foreman, but that was before the economic crisis.
As the economy worsened, people stopped building houses, and Dan’s company began to lay off its workers. In 2009, he lost his job.
The father of four still had a family to support, so he began picking up odd jobs wherever he could. But his income was less than half of what he had earned before. The family struggled to afford enough food and other basic necessities.
Then, a friend told Dan and his wife Faith about Bread of Life, a local food outreach supported by Operation Blessing, where they could get some much-needed help.
“There is no way we could afford some of the things Bread of Life has blessed us with,” Dan said.

He and Faith were able to bring home a variety of foods such as cereal, juice, canned vegetables, noodles, and bread to their four children who range in age from 3 to 15.
“It’s truly a blessing,” Faith said. “Bread of Life and Operation Blessing have truly blessed our family.”
Operation Blessing has been partnering with Bread of Life for 16 years. Each month, OBI’s Hunger Strike Force delivers more than 100,000 pounds of food to the distribution center. With the help of those supplies, Bread of Life reaches approximately 1,200 families every month.
“Operation Blessing has been one of our greatest supporters,” said Gary Bellis, who began the program. “Operation Blessing has enabled us to reach out into our community in huge ways that we never could have done by ourselves.”
