Ed, Rina, and their sons—Grey, Isaac, and Michael—are grateful that Operation Blessing and Open Door were there when they needed help the most.

CROWLEY, Texas – When Ed was rushed to the emergency room, his wife, Rina, had no way of knowing the difficult road that lay before them.

Diagnosed with severe acute pancreatitis, Ed nearly died—three times. After numerous surgeries and a recovery time of more than 28 months, Ed miraculously survived the ordeal, his wife steadfast by his side.

Meanwhile, with mounting medical bills and the loss of Ed’s income, his family struggled to make ends meet. Thankfully, local food bank Open Door Ministries was there to help Ed, Rina, and their three growing boys during the hardest of times.

Open Door and Operation Blessing’s Hunger Strike Force have been partnering for seven years in an effort to curb hunger in Texas. OBI delivers two truckloads of food and supplies to Open Door every month. And two Saturdays a month, the food bank opens its doors to more than 300 families just like Ed and Rina’s.

Today, Ed is in good health and working once more, and both he and Rina now volunteer their time with Open Door as a way of saying thank you for the help they received when they so desperately needed it.

“Without Operation Blessing and Open Door, there might not have been food on my family’s table some nights,” Ed said.
