Thanks to an Operation Blessing-supported children’s program, Alicia receives a hot meal every week.

NORTH CAROLINA – Alicia is only four years old, but she already knows what it means to do without.

Her mother, Wendy, moved their small family to North Carolina to help care for her mother, who was undergoing cancer treatments.

Since the move two years ago, Wendy has been looking for a job, but work is hard to come by in a county built around manufacturing plants that are no longer operating.

Meanwhile, she does her best to provide for her 13-year-old son and little Alicia. But times are tough.

“I don’t have enough money to get food,” she said.

That’s where the Operation Blessing-supported Victory Children’s Ministry comes in. Once a week, Wendy and her children attend a program where they receive a hot meal and the kids get to play games and win prizes.

Feed a hungry child today

A family “shops” for food supplies at the Victory Children’s Ministry food pantry.

The weekly dinner is a huge relief for Wendy. “That’s one day a week I can count on—I know that my kids are going to have food to eat,” she said.

And to help provide for the rest of the week, Wendy receives bags of groceries to take home. “It helps out a lot in the home front,” she said, “as far as making sure they have food and cereal to eat.”

Victory Children’s Ministry is all about the children, said Pastor Lee who runs the program. Between their weekly meal, food pantry, and the hot food they deliver to underprivileged communities, Pastor Lee estimates they serve around 4,000 children every week.

“They’re not dressed in the finest clothes, and some of them don’t even have shoes,” he explained about the children they serve. “They are the ‘least of these.’”

Pastor Lee thanked Operation Blessing for helping make their efforts possible. “Many times we have been down to absolutely nothing, no food, and Operation Blessing calls.” Thankfully, he said, they have never had to turn a child away.

That’s good news for Alicia and her family who rely on the ministry to help them through a difficult time.

“It’s a blessing to be able to come here and have food to eat,” Wendy said.
