PHILIPPINES – For the second year in a row, Operation Blessing Philippines has been cited as the Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) of the Year by the 10th Infantry Division of the Armed Forces of the Philippines.

OBI Philippines was previously awarded the NGO Award Organization of the Year in 2006 as well as 2002 and 2003.

The NGO of the Year award is given in recognition of OBI's efforts in promoting peace and helping to rebuild the nation in impoverished provinces.

Dr. Kim Pascual, at center, and Operation Blessing staff accept the NGO of the year award from officers of the 10th infantry.

"This is an incredible honor," said OBI President Bill Horan. "In the Philippines, this award is the equivalent of the Nobel Peace Prize."

OB Philippines conducted large-scale humanitarian missions reaching more than 200,000 people in 2007, providing healthcare to residents, emergency aid to disaster victims, livelihood assistance to families and feeding and education to children.

"We are committed to reaching out to the most neglected and economically disadvantaged people groups in the Philippines and the rest of Asia through a wide range of holistic programs and assistance," said Dr. Kim April C. Pascual, executive vice president and chief operating officer for Operation Blessing Philippines.

In addition, OB Philippines livelihood projects benefited nearly 1,000 families and trained more than 300 students through its mobile out-of-school training program. Volunteers and staff also provided medical aid and assistance to more than 30,000 people.

During last year, 21 disaster relief operations were conducted and 170 wells and cisterns were constructed in various provinces to provide potable water to the locals. That's twice as many wells as last year.

The 10th Infantry Division of the Armed Forces of the Philippines presents the annual award in accordance with the vital role of the military in the attainment of the government's pursuit for peace and development.
