Operation Blessing president, Bill Horan, signs the charter to mark the official launch date of OB Mexico on June 20.

MEXICO – Operation Blessing has stepped south of the border in order to launch a new partnership that will span the 14th largest county in the world.

June 20 marked the official start date of OB Mexico complete with a signed charter by Operation Blessing President, Bill Horan.

"This is an exciting new time for Operation Blessing," Horan said. "We are thrilled to be here assisting President Calderon in his heroic effort to break the cycle of poverty in Mexico."

The United States of Mexico is a federation that has 31 states and has an estimated population of 109 million. It boasts the 12th largest economy in the world, however, social and security problems have plagued the nation. Calderon, The new President has made remarkable progress during the first year of his six year term.

Alejandro Lucas Orozco has been named the National Director for OB Mexico and has already built a team of leaders in 27 States. He plans to work closely with the National Integrated Family Development Center, where he is also the director, and the Medical Alliance of Mexico, a group of more than 40,000 physicians across the nation.

August will mark the first major humanitarian effort where OB Mexico will fund and organize the treatment of 5 million children with anti-parasite pills in communities across Mexico. An educational program is also initiated to instruct parents on good hygiene practices to help prevent re-infestation. Five million follow up doses will be administered six months later.

Already, OBI has been active in disaster relief in Mexico. In the wake of Hurricane Dean in August 2007, OBI sent relief supplies including roofing materials and food. In addition, OBI responded to some of the worst flooding in Mexico's history in November of the same year by supplying medicines, food, water purification systems and other relief supplies.
