| Thanks to the quick response of an Operation Blessing health worker, Happiness survived a serious case of malaria. |
DALLE, Nigeria – Her name is Happiness.
But when her grandmother brought Happiness to see a village health worker in their hometown of Dalle, Nigeria, the 2-year-old was anything but happy.
A high fever racked her small body and she had no appetite.
Right away, the Operation Blessing-trained health worker recognized the symptoms of advanced malaria and rushed Happiness to a hospital where she was promptly treated.
According to her doctors, Happiness could not have survived the strain of malaria much longer without treatment. It was the quick identification of the disease by the health worker that saved her young life.

| Operation Blessing trains local health workers in courses such as anatomy, sanitation, nutrition, HIV/AIDS, first aid, malaria and seizure control, wound care, and immunizations. |
So far, Operation Blessing’s community health workers program has trained 9 volunteers in the village of Dalle. The program, which started in 2008, educates local volunteers in courses such as anatomy, sanitation, nutrition, HIV/AIDS, first aid, malaria and seizure control, wound care, and immunizations.
After volunteers complete several weeks of training, Operation Blessing provides their village with a supply of medicine that is maintained by the health workers.
Thanks to this program, villagers previously without access to healthcare now have basic medical resources in their own villages, and in the case of Happiness, a life-saving option that’s giving them a healthier—and happier—future.
