She had been sick for a week already, and Romeo knew it would be another month before he could save enough money to take her to a doctor. But by then, it might be too late.
He had seen his neighbor die because they had no means of travel between their village and the city.
“I didn’t want to wait that long,” Romeo said. “What if my wife’s condition worsened?”
But then Romeo heard something that gave him hope. The leaders of his village announced that a medical team from Operation Blessing would be coming to a nearby town to give free examinations.

On the day of the clinic, Romeo and his wife left their village early in the morning and walked an hour and a half to reach the medical clinic. There, his wife was examined and treated by OBI physicians.
“OB is a blessing to villagers like us,” Romeo said. “Now my wife can get proper medical attention.”
In all, Operation Blessing medical teams spent six days in various parts of Sarangani, treating more than 10,000 people. Services included medical check-ups, dental care, minor surgeries, vaccinations, and more.
