SANTA TECLA, El Salvador – When Marvin and Ingrid realized that they were expecting their first child, they were as thrilled and nervous as any first-time parents.

To ensure their baby’s health, Ingrid went in search of a doctor to monitor the child’s growth and development. It was during an ultrasound session that Ingrid heard the devastating news—her beautiful baby would be born with a cleft lip.

Neither Ingrid nor Marvin knew anything about this condition, so they began doing all the research they could in hopes of finding a treatment for their precious baby. Corrective surgery was necessary to fix their child’s lip, but Ingrid and Marvin knew that their small income could not pay for such a procedure.

Together, they set out to find a sponsor for Leslie’s surgery. They checked at national and private hospitals, they found no one who could help.

Thanks to Operation Blessing, Leslie was given cleft-lip corrective surgery free of charge.

Marvin watched helplessly, worried over the future his daughter would face if she did not receive timely treatment.

But then the young father read about Operation Blessing’s cleft lip project and discovered that OBI would soon be hosting cleft lip and palate operations near their hometown.

On the date of the surgery campaign, Marvin and Ingrid brought their little girl to the hospital in the early morning hours.

Operation Blessing selected 4-month-old Leslie to receive the corrective surgery she needed, free of charge.

“We are certain that in the same way God worked a miracle to give Leslie the surgery she needed, He will give us as parents the strength to move forward, and to protect, care for and love the biggest blessing God has given us—our little Leslie,” said the parents.
