| OB China helped Xiuwei and Zhenting raise enough money to pay for Xiuwei’s treatment after she suffered a stroke one morning in Beijing. |
BEIJING, China – When Xiuwei traveled to Beijing with her husband to obtain help for their young son Taotao, she had no idea she would soon be in desperate need herself.
Taotao is deaf and enrolled in OB China’s Back to Sound project. In Beijing, Taotao receives hearing-speech training and has been steadily progressing in his abilities.
But then Xiuwei woke up one morning vomiting and then suddenly fell unconscious. Her husband Zhenting rushed her to the hospital where it became apparent that this was no ordinary illness. At only 29 years old, Xiuwei was diagnosed with acute cerebral infarction—a type of stroke.
Zhenting could tell that Xiuwei was in pain, and he was told by the doctors that her life was in danger. But the hospital began asking for payment, saying that they needed money before they could continue her medical treatment.

Desperate for help, Zhenting called OB China when his wife first went into the hospital, and an OBI team met him there.
“My father died of cancer when I was 20 years old, my son is a deaf child and now my wife’s life is in danger,” he said.
When the team left the hospital, they wrote a simple, heartfelt letter and posted it on their website. Soon, people began responding with donations, many even visited Xiuwei and Zhenting in the hospital.
In all, OB China raised 28,400 yuan (more than $4,000 USD) for Xiuwei; just enough for the cost of her treatment.
“Our doctor had said that Xiuwei would pass away or be completely paralyzed,” said Zhenting, now back in his hometown with his wife.
“But as you can see, Xiuwei is recovering very well. The doctor said it is a miracle. Thank you, Operation Blessing China.”
