| Ramesh was given a free examination by Operation Blessing medical staff in Leninpur, India. |
LENINPUR, India – Ramesh works hard every day just to bring home enough money to feed his family.
He is a stone cutter in a quarry, but his failing eyesight made it difficult to accurately cut the stones. Instead, they would sometimes splinter, with bits of sharp rock striking his coworkers.
Ramesh didn’t want his work to suffer, especially since his employers have been so generous as to allow him to work there at all. Ramesh has leprosy and most businesses simply wouldn’t give him a chance. But with his failing eyesight, he was afraid he may not be able to keep his position.
Ramesh could not afford to take a day off work to seek medical care, much less pay a doctor’s fees, so his eyesight continued to worsen.

| After Ramesh’s eye exam, he was given a pair of prescription eyeglasses to correct his vision. |
Then Operation Blessing came to Leninpur, where more than 120 leper families live. Those who can find work are day laborers in quarries or fields, but many cannot secure employment because of the stigma of leprosy. To make matters worse, the community is largely cut off from any other society and is without adequate access to medical care.
Operation Blessing teams offered free medical exams and even an eye clinic. For Ramesh and his wife Rani, it was the long awaited answer to their problems. Ramesh was examined and then given a pair of prescription eyeglasses that were able to correct his deteriorating vision.
“We never knew that the solution to this problem would come to our doorstep,” said Rani. “Thank you Operation Blessing!”
Back at the quarry, Ramesh is once again cutting stones with precision and skill. “I am so happy to see my husband working so confidently,” Rani said.
