Damaris’ family has no extra money for medical care, so when an Operation Blessing free medical clinic arrived to their community, Damaris was able to receive the care she desperately needed.

EL COPINAL, El Salvador – One look at 11-year-old Damaris as she arrived at Operation Blessing’s free medical clinic in her community, and medical staff could immediately tell there was a problem.

“I could see anguish and tears in her eyes,” OBI staff said.

Damaris was in severe pain and as her mother explained her symptoms, it soon became apparent that the girl was suffering from appendicitis and she needed emergency surgery right away.

They worked quickly to provide Damaris with a written medical reference explaining her condition. Then several staff members coordinated a police escort to take them quickly and safely to the nearest hospital.

Thanks to the timely actions of the medical team, Damaris was able to present her reference and receive immediate surgery at the hospital, saving her from the pain and complications of a ruptured appendix.

“I feel very grateful to God and to you that performed such a great humanitarian work to those who need it,” said Damaris’ mother, Mirna.

Damaris was soon able to return home and has made a full recovery and returned to school.

“We have no words to describe how grateful we are for all you have done in our lives,” her parents said.

Over the course of a week, Operation Blessing’s medical team in El Salvador conducted five clinics throughout the region, treating more than 1,200 people who have limited access or cannot afford medical care.
