| After his surgery, Sokarn has a beautiful new smile and hope for a better future. |
CAMBODIA – Chan and her husband welcomed their first child with all the enthusiasm of new parents. But when their son was born with a cleft lip, their celebration quickly turned to worry.
“We were so sad,” Chan said. “And we were worried about Sokarn’s future.”
Chan feared how her son would be received in the community, knowing the societal shame he would face at school and even among their neighbors. She desperately wanted to take Sokarn to a hospital for corrective surgery, but as rice farmers, Chan and her husband simply didn’t have the money to pay for the procedure.
Then Chan was told about Operation Blessing’s cleft lip project and she brought her son to meet the OBI team in Phnom Penh. There, he was scheduled for surgery, without charge to his family.
Now, Sokarn has a beautiful new smile and Chan has renewed hope for her son’s future.
“I would like to thank Operation Blessing and the kind donors who provided this help from a far distance,” she said. “With your gift, Sokarn will live without shame as he grows up. Thank you!”
