OB India helps Ijak (left) support his family with a business of his own—a poultry farm. |
TURUK, India – More than anything else, Ijak, wants to help provide for his family.
Ever since Ijak’s mother died 7 years ago, he has watched his father, Tusidas, struggle to make ends meet.
Tusidas is a farmer and owns a small plot of land. But they live in the high altitudes of Sakkim, a place marked by its remoteness and extreme weather. Tusidas works hard, but in those conditions he is hardly able to grow enough vegetables to provide his family with essentials.
Ijak, now 23, wants to alleviate his father’s burden and help support the family, but he can’t find employment in his village, and the surrounding terrain makes travel tedious and dangerous.
But when a team from Operation Blessing visited his village and learned of Ijak’s situation, things began to change for the family.

OBI also gives Ijak’s siblings, Sulaiman and Yojana, school supplies to help them get an education. |
The OBI team helped Ijak set up a small poultry farm. Because of the difficulty involved in travel there, chicken meat is in high demand and low supply. So OBI purchased the necessary materials to build a shed and provided Ijak with several chickens to launch his new business.
“I can feel my life begin to take a new shape,” Ijak said. “You gave me such an opportunity. I am confident that I can lead a good life and give a better future to my family. My father’s burden is reduced and I am so grateful to Operation Blessing.”
Along with the poultry farm, Operation Blessing helped Ijak’s family by providing free health care through a medical camp in the village and even gave his younger siblings, Yojana and Sulaiman, school supplies to help them in school.
