HONDURAS – Blanca has a knack for making sweet treats, but unfortunately, time was not on her side.
Because she lacked the proper equipment, breads that should have taken 15 minutes to bake were instead taking her three hours—leaving little time to sell her goods and make enough income to provide for her six children.
Blanca was abandoned by her husband several years ago and has been struggling to support her family ever since. Desperate for a solution, she approached the bank for a business loan but was denied.
“I was so sad because I didn’t know how to begin,” Blanca said.
But then Operation Blessing heard about her situation and offered to help with a micro loan.
“I was so surprised when they said they would support me and not even charge me interest,” she said.
As part of the loan, OBI purchased a new industrial oven for Blanca as well as a glass case to display her baked goods, which she will pay off within 12 months. As an extra blessing, they also donated 100 business cards, material to fix her work table and some flour, butter, and sugar to jumpstart her new bakery.
“I told my children that the Lord provided us this blessing,” Blanca said. “I am very grateful to Operation Blessing for the support given to me and so honored that I’m naming my business, ‘My Blessing Bakery.’ ”
