| Am Hares accepted a microloan from Operation Blessing in order to restart his pasta business. |
EGYPT – It started like any other day for father and son.
Am Hares and his young son, Abanob, had just purchased more than 200 pounds of pasta from a factory in their city. Am Hares had been planning to sell the pasta, like he did every day, from a spot on the road near the marketplace.
But what he wasn’t planning was to face a brutal attack and lose his business in a matter of minutes.
On the way back from purchasing the pasta, father and son were attacked on the street. The strangers beat Am Hares and pushed his son to the ground, then took the pasta and fled.

With the pasta gone, Am Hares had lost his income and the only means he had to provide for his family.
His son also required medical care for his injuries, so by the time Am Hares had paid the cost of Abanob’s medical bills, his savings were also depleted. He had no capital to restart his pasta business.
Then Am Hares was introduced to Operation Blessing. They shared about their microenterprise project that could loan him 500 LE ($85 USD) that he would eventually have to pay back.
Eager to get back to work, Am Hares agreed to the deal.
Less than two months later, Am Hares returned to Operation Blessing with his first payment on the loan and to share the good news about his business.
“I was able to use the loan money to purchase a small shop,” he told staff.
Now, thanks to help of Operation Blessing partners, Am Hares and his wife can securely conduct their business to sell pasta and support their family once more.
