ISIFIYA, Israel – For most people, walking through the front door of your home is not something to be feared.

But for Yasmin and her young family – a dangerous situation hung just above their front door.

When Operation Blessing Israel staff were told that the electrical wiring in Yasmin’s home was extremely unsafe for the 22-year-old mom and her two young children—Lily, 3, and Haiman, 2—they sent a team to visit them and were shocked by what they saw.

“We were greeted by a mess of wires just inside the door,” said Tony Cece, senior video producer with OBI. “The scary part was seeing all the exposed wires—it was insane. And there were also areas of water damage just above the doorway. You felt like anything could set off a spark or fire at any time.”

Staff quickly contacted an electrician who confirmed their assessment.

“The electrician we hired told us he had never seen wiring so unsafe and he significantly reduced his rates to help because he wanted to be a part of the solution. He felt no one should live in this unsafe environment,” Tony said.

Not only was their situation unsafe, but the electrical system was not even sufficient to power a water heater or stove, so the family had neither, making their lives even more difficult.

“All of their food had to be cooked by their nearby family or friends,” Tony added.

OB Israel arranged for all of Yasmin’s electrical work to be repaired as well as purchased and installed a water heater, gas stovetop and small refrigerator.

“Jasmine asked us, ‘Why are you doing this for me? Not even my mother or my father would do something like this for me,’ ” Tony recalled. “It’s a question that is heard quite often, but over and over the resounding answer is, ‘Because we are demonstrating the love of God to others,’ ” Tony said. “It is people like Yasmin that inspire us to continue to shower love on those facing difficult times because it really does change their lives, now and forever.”
