| After losing her husband at a young age, Padma had to find a way to support her growing son. |
INDIA – When Padma was a young woman, she never imagined that she would have to face life alone.
But when her son was only a year old, her husband tragically passed away. It was only through the help of her father that Padma was able to provide for her son over the next several years.
But as her father was aging, it became increasingly difficult for him to support them. To help, Padma took the only job she could find—working with a small catering company—but the work wasn’t steady and her income simply wasn’t enough.
Then a community leader told Padma about a nearby sewing center where Padma learned she could take six months of classes that would prepare her for a career as a seamstress. She signed up for the course right away.

| Operation Blessing gave Padma and more than 60 other widows their very own sewing machines so they can work from home. |
Padma successfully graduated from the program, but there was a problem. Without a sewing machine of her own, it was difficult for her to earn enough to support her growing son.
That’s when Operation Blessing stepped in to supply not only Padma, but more than 60 other widows at the center with their own sewing machines.
The new machines were delivered to each widow’s house, allowing Padma and others to now work from home so they can take care of their families.
“This is an unforgettable gift from Operation Blessing,” Padma said. “I feel a great sense of relief and independence. Thank you, OBI, for coming forward to help me.”
