| Angel had been making and selling ice cream for 15 years when his livelihood was destroyed by a hurricane. |
CIUDAD CARDEL, Mexico – When Angel goes to work each day selling ice cream, he’s always got his three daughters in mind.
What he wants most, is for them to have the one thing he’s never had: an education.
“I go out every day to work with the desire that my daughters can study because I could not,” Angel said, referring to his three girls: Ana, Yarisbeth and Wendy, ranging in age from 8 to 14. “I know that educated, they may defend themselves in life.”
To provide for their education, Angel has spent the last 15 years making and selling ice cream from a cart, even employing his nephew in the business.
Then Hurricane Karl hit his town and Angel’s home, which sits near the bank of the river, was flooded when the river overflowed its banks—destroying not only his family’s belongings, but also their entire source of income. His supplies were lost, equipment damaged and cart entrenched in mud.

| Now Angel’s wife Mirna and their daughters, Ana, Yarisbeth, and Wendy, help make ice cream and fill bags of candy for Angel to sell. |
It was in their greatest hour of need that Angel met an Operation Blessing team in Mexico who offered to help. Operation Blessing was able to recover and repair Angel’s cart, refurbish his equipment and restock his supplies. Teams even helped Angel expand his business by giving him materials to also make and sell candy.
Now, Angel is back in business and able to continue supporting his daughters with their education. He is also able to save a portion of his profits every month and making plans to build a home farther from the river, where they will be safe when the rains come again.
And the blessings didn’t stop there. Business is doing so well that Angel has been able to help his nephew, Daniel, get started with his own ice cream cart, allowing the young man to support his wife.
“Of all the things in life, my family is the most important,” Angel said, grateful for the opportunity to provide for them once more.
