| With help from Operation Blessing, Om Alla was able to purchase her first oven and start a bakery in her home. |
CAIRO, Egypt – In the slums surrounding Cairo, Om Alla spends all day assembling power strips, sometimes more than 100 of them at a time.
Her income? A mere $3 a day.
Om Alla desperately wanted a better life for her and her son—in fact she dreamed of opening her own bakery. But every penny from her work was spent on necessities like food and shelter. There was nothing left to invest in a business.
Then Om Alla heard about Operation Blessing’s micro-enterprise project. “I went to a meeting and got a loan [from them] to buy a bread oven,” she said.
With the small loan from Operation Blessing, Om Alla was not only able to purchase an oven, but also a propane tank and other needed equipment to start her bakery.
“I make many different types of bread,” she said proudly. “Whatever kind of bread a customer wants, I can make it.”
Now Om Alla earns enough to care for her family and run a successful business—giving her family hope for a brighter future.
“I want to say thank you. God bless you and reward you for the good things you are doing for people,” she said. “Now people can work, meet the needs of their household and feed their children. Thank you.”
