| Every day, Tingkham spent most of her day making long journeys to fetch water for her family. |
LAOS – Every day, Tingkham knew what she had to do.
The 13-year-old girl would balance a rod on her shoulders with a large bucket on each end and begin the 1-hour trek to fetch drinking water from a dug-hole at the river.
“It was very far away and the road was narrow passing through the bushes and difficult to travel; quite uncomfortable, especially during rainy season,” Tingkham said. “There were some animals running around, and sometimes we were bitten by snakes or scorpions.”
Beyond the physical dangers of the trip, the water itself was often unsuitable for drinking.
“We used to have stomachaches and flu because the water was not clean,” Tingkham added.
When Operation Blessing Laos learned of their need for clean drinking water, they came and provided the families in this area with a water well, thanks to the generous donations of Operation Blessing partners.

| Thanks to Operation Blessings partners, Tingkham and her village now have access to a clean water well. |
“We have a new bore-well near our house!” Tingkham said. “We are so happy and thankful. Fetching water is very comfortable. I don’t waste time waiting. I can fetch water any time, even during the night time.”
Now, Tingkham has time to help out with other important things—like caring for her 3-month-old sibling, doing her schoolwork, or just having fun.
“Thank you so much for helping us,” she said. “I am very happy now.”
