For years, Yenny has had to carry heavy buckets of water up this steep path to her mountain village in Honduras. |
HONDURAS – For more than 100 years, Yenny’s mountainside village has lived without ready access to clean water.
Instead, Yenny and the other girls in her village descend the steep mountain three or four times a day to collect water from a natural spring. Then, lifting the heavy buckets on top of their heads, they climb back up the mountain trail.
“My feet, head, arms, and back ache,” Yenny told Operation Blessing staff. But she had no choice but to continue making the difficult journey several times each day to provide enough water for her aging mother and her brothers who work to support them.
“I thought we would never have water nearby,” she continued. “I thought one day my children would have to live like this too.”

After Operation Blessing installed a pump system, Yenny and her neighbors have running water right inside their homes. |
But then Operation Blessing came to her village, giving Yenny and her community an unexpected and much-needed solution.
A team from OB Honduras built a pump system that brings the clean spring water up the mountain to their village. And they didn’t stop there. They installed faucets in each house in Yenny’s village, bringing clean, running water right into their homes.
“That day, I jumped for joy,” Yenny said. “It made me so happy. Thanks, Operation Blessing, you’ve made our dream come true!”
