Villagers in Mora had to walk more than a mile and cross this rickety bridge to collect water from the stream. |
MORA, Kenya – In the small village of Mora, bad weather often meant one thing: no water to drink.
Women and children trekked more than a mile each direction to collect water from a stream. But the walk was long and they had to cross a rickety bridge—one that was easily washed away by floods.
So a community member named Joseph offered to donate a piece of land to the village, where a well could be dug.
Villagers quickly dug a well on the nearby tract of land, but the well was left open—posing a danger to the women and children who came to collect water.

Now, villagers are able to safely access water from this nearby well. |
Then Operation Blessing teams arrived in Mora and helped the village close the well and install a water pump.
Now, thanks to the efforts of Joseph and Operation Blessing, more than 400 villagers can safely access clean water near their homes—rain or shine.
“I am just happy to see the community get clean water,” Joseph said. “This has been our dream.”
HOW YOU CAN HELP
Help break the cycle of suffering by giving toward Operation Blessing's water wells and cisterns program. A gift of $1,800 can drill a well for villages and supply families with clean drinking water.
