What is Operation Blessing?
Operation Blessing International Relief and Development Corporation (OBI) is a non-profit 501 (c) (3) humanitarian organization headdquartered in Virginia Beach, Virginia, USA that is dedicated to alleviating human need and suffering in the United States and around the world.

When did Operation Blessing begin?
Founded in 1978, OBI provides hunger relief, medical care, disaster relief, and education to help develop healthy, self-sustaining communities, families and individuals.

What are Gifts-In-Kind?
Gifts-In-Kind are donations that are received from growers, food chains, manufacturing and production facilities, distributors and other industry organizations. Examples of donations include non-perishable and perishable food products; disaster relief and medical supplies; pharmaceuticals; building materials and supplies; clothing and textiles; seeds and agricultural tools; books, journals, educational materials and school supplies; and basic hygiene items.

What kinds of product are donated?
Corporations and growers often donate firsts, produce that cannot be sold due to size or blemish, damaged packaged and canned goods that are safe to eat, overstocked items, or items with short retail shelf life.

How can a corporation donate gifts-in-kind?
Growers, food chains, manufacturers and distributors as well as other industry organizations may call (800)-436-6348 for more information on how to make a gifts-in-kind donation.

What benefit is there in providing this type of gift?
Because Operation Blessing is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization, donations received can qualify as a tax deduction for the donating individual or company. Operating costs are currently kept under fifteen percent so that maximum effort is given to provide for those in need. Operation Blessing is audited annually by an independent auditing firm.

What does Operation Blessing do with Gifts-In-Kind?
Operation Blessing is a humanitarian relief organization responding to the needs of people both nationally and internationally. We have outreach centers across the United States and around the world which have established networks within their communities to provide assistance efficiently and effectively. Operation Blessing never sells or markets donated goods.

What are some examples of the products Operation Blessing distributes and needs?
  • FOOD: canned foods, cereal, rice, pasta, baby formula, powdered milk, flour/sugar, bottled water, frozen foods, fruits & vegetables, as well as dry goods.
  • CLOTHING: shoes, coats, socks, insulated underwear, hats, scarves, gloves, disposable diapers, and bedding
  • DISASTER RELIEF: building materials, genrators, tarps, flashlights, batteries, mops/brooms, hand tools, medical/dental supplies, and cleaning supplies
  • MISCELLANEOUS: health care items, vitamins, hand trucks, fax machines, baby care items, copiers, computers, fans/heaters, school supplies, fork lifts, and pallet jacks.

    Where and how does Operation Blessing receive donations?
    Operation Blessing has its own fleet of 48' refrigerated tractor-trailer trucks which are utilized in picking up products directly from the donor. Local donations are often delivered to our distribution centers in Chesapeake, Virginia and Riverside, California.

    How are the Hunger Strike Force trucks funded?
    The operating expenses of our truck fleet are funded through donations, corporate sponsorships and travel assistance provided by receiving agencies and ministries.
