Caring Ideas for January
- During the cold winter months, many elderly people and struggling families
have to choose between heating their homes and putting food on the table.
You can provide nutritious food for them by supporting our Hunger Relief
program.
- Shovel snow for an elderly neighbor.
- Replenish the depleted shelves of your local food bank or soup kitchen by holding a neighborhood canned food drive.
Caring Ideas for February
- During this season of Valentine’s Day love, offer to care for a single parent’s
children for a few hours.
- Check with your church or nursing home to find an elderly couple in need. Then invite them over for a good, home-cooked meal, or take it to them.
Caring Ideas for March- Empower the
unemployed by giving them the opportunity to receive Life Skills training
or participate in one of many micro enterprise projects in our Hope Works
program.
- Help the homeless by putting together toiletry bags. Fill a small, new backpack with a toothbrush, toothpaste, socks, clippers, comb, compact mirror, deodorant, a compact umbrella and other items. Donate the backpack to a local shelter.
- Volunteer several hours at a local homeless shelter or soup kitchen.
Caring Ideas for April
- Change an at-risk
child into an Overcomer by supporting Bless-A-Child enrichment programs.
We helpwill address them with educational support their, health care,
character development, and so much more.
- It’s time for spring cleaning! Clear out the closets and fill large plastic garbage bags with your clean “cast away” shoes and clothing. Donate these items to a local shelter or clothing closet.
- Get a group of friends together who are good at construction. Then seek out a family or elderly person needing some basic home repair.
Caring Ideas for May- Bring life to
a village by helping sponsor a desperately needed water well before the
hot summer months.
- Hold a pre-season hurricane party with friends to assemble and send us disaster
relief kits so we’ll
be ready to help when the unexpected happens.
- Offer to do an elderly person’s yard work free of charge, once a week, for the entire season.
Caring Ideas for June- Observe National
Hunger Awareness month by recruiting a group of teens, singles or families
to hold a car wash, bake sale or other fun fundraiser.
- Write your congressmen and senators encouraging them to support legislation that is just and kind to the poor.
- Include a less-fortunate child on a fun family outing (beach, amusement park, picnic, etc.).
Caring Ideas for July
- Gather a Sunday school class, care group, or group of friends to assemble
and send Pencil
Case kits to Operation Blessing to help needy children around
the world with school.
- Take an elderly neighbor to a summer craft show or youth sporting event.
Caring Ideas for August- Take an active
part in our Back-To-School program! Many children living in low-income
households are dreading the school year because their parents will not
be able to afford basic essentials like clothing and school supplies.
For just $25, you can help give them a new set of clothes, a pair of shoes,
and school supplies.
- As you realize your children have outgrown their clothes for this year, pack the items (make sure they are clean and mended) and take them to a nearby shelter for women and children, or to a community clothing closet.
- Spend a couple of hours with an elderly person in a nursing home (play card games, look at old pictures, walk on the grounds with them, listen, etc.).
Caring Ideas for September- Hurricane season is underway for much of the United State’s eastern coast. Help us in preparing for a quick disaster relief response! If this year repeats 2004’s
Hurricane Charley, Frances, Ivan and Jeanne, many may be left without
water and electricity.
- Rake leaves for an elderly neighbor or a single-parent family.
- Have a dinner party for the homeless. Invite some friends over to make bagged meals (sandwich, chips, fresh fruit, water or a boxed drink, and dessert) and deliver them to the homeless. Call a local shelter to learn where they tend to congregate. Feed your invited guests the same meal.
Caring Ideas for October
- Offer to take an elderly or handicapped person to church with you every Sunday.
- The winter chill is coming. You know all of those “extra” jackets, coats, and other winter things that are in the back of the closet, the items you say you will wear, but haven’t in years? A homeless child and adult could wear them right now! Call your local shelters or soup kitchens to see when they will be holding a coat drive.
Caring Ideas for November- Give a dinner. Calculate how much you plan to spend on your family’s
Thanksgiving dinner. Donate an equal
amount. This will give less-fortunate
Americans something to be thankful for too!
- Blanket the homeless with love. Set up a collection box at your church for extra blankets. Have them cleaned and donate them to a local homeless shelter.
- Invite an elderly person, international student, or single-parent family to join you for your Thanksgiving celebration.
Caring Ideas for December- Spread the
joy of the holidays around the world with generous year-end
gifts. You’ll be glad that you did now — and on April 15th!
- Take your youth group, care group, or office group caroling in a nursing home or homeless shelter. Make sure to bring along appropriate treats!
- Buy an extra toy or two and drop them off at an area toy drive for orphans, children of prisoners, or low-income families. Remember to pray for the recipient when you gather with your family to open presents.
