The blessing of an education
Blessing once spent her days on the streets of Karu, selling food. Now she spends her time in school, learning alongside her classmates.
KARU, Nigeria - Her name is Blessing; yet sadly, the 12-year-old has lived a life filled with far more hardships than blessings.
When she was a young girl, Blessing lost both of her parents . Her aunt and uncle took her in, but there was no extra money to pay for things like school.
So at 12 years old, instead of spending her days behind a desk at school, she instead spent her days selling food on the dusty streets of Karu, a city in central Nigeria, to help earn money for her family.
When Ngozi, a social worker, found her and learned about Blessing’s situation, she approached Operation Blessing with a special request—to help support her through school.
Operation Blessing agreed and Blessing was soon enrolled in a local school where she regularly attends classes.
Two years later, Blessing’s life is finally living up to her name. She is a bright and thriving student and hopes to become a doctor some day.
“I want to thank the people who are helping me go to school,” Blessing said, “and I pray God will continue to provide for them so they can help me until I can stand on my own.”
