Dangerous work

Posted: September 23, 2009   By: Operation Blessing

Less than one year ago, Supot was living on the streets and struggling to survive.

Today, he and 25 other orphans and vulnerable children are being care for and given hot meals, medical care and a safe place to stay.

THAILAND - It’s hard to imagine Supot as anything but happy. The 13-year-old’s charming smile and playful demeanor are a far cry from who he was just less than a year ago.

After being kicked out his house by an abusive stepfather, Supot was desperate to find a way earn money to survive.

"I had to go through garbage to find scrap metal so I could buy rice to eat," he said.

But picking through the trash led to the cuts and infections on his arms, legs and hands.

“My cuts hurt really bad. It was so painful,” Supot said.

Things grew especially dangerous for young Supot as he began spraying pesticides for local farmers. The harsh chemicals made their way into his already painful cuts and abrasions.

Then one day a kind Christian woman met Supot and asked him where he lived. When he told her he lived on the streets, she brought him to a home for orphaned and vulnerable children sponsored by Operation Blessing.

At the home, they treated his infected legs with antibiotics, and they gave him the kind of meals he’d only dreamed about on the streets.

In fact, at this orphanage there are more than 25 children like Supot whose lives have been changed for the better and who now have a promising future thanks to the support of Operation Blessing partners.

"God changed my life and has healed my wounds. Thank you, Operation Blessing," Supot said.

HOW YOU CAN HELP: Operation Blessing is helping to transform the futures of children like these by providing clean water, education assistance, nutritional feeding programs, medical care and more.
