Enrique was living on the streets when a team from Operation Blessing-supported Mision Rescate offered him the chance for a better life.

SAN PEDRO SULA, Honduras – By the time he was 12 years old, Enrique was homeless, addicted to drugs, and losing hope for a better life.

Then one night as he walked the streets of Honduras, he met a team from Mision Rescate (Rescue Mission), an outreach supported by Operation Blessing whose mission is to help vulnerable children and teens living on the streets.

They offered Enrique a home to live in, nutritious food, medical care, education and, most importantly, a second chance at life.

Two years later, 14-year-old Enrique is thriving under their care. He studies hard and gets good grades in school. And what’s more, he’s passing the blessing on to other children in need.

“He goes to the local hospital every month to feed disabled children and give toys and food to the sick children there,” OBI staff said. “He also started a toy drive this year to collect toys for children in an impoverished area of the city.”

Enrique now dedicates his free time to feeding disabled children at a local hospital and organizing toy drives for impoverished children.

All this, Enrique explains, because he was shown compassion when he needed it most.

“I feel loved,” he told OBI staff.

At least two nights a week, volunteers from Mision Rescate hit the streets, building relationships with the children they meet. Their mission is to help these children by rehabilitating them physically and psychologically.

Operation Blessing supports the outreach with food, educational materials, medication, sports supplies, and more.

Thanks to these efforts, many of the boys who had been living on the streets—just like Enrique—have now successfully completed the rehabilitation and restoration program and some have even reintegrated back into their families.

Boys like 14-year-old Alejandro who was also rescued after being abandoned on the streets for seven years but is now healthy, happy and back in school.

“Thank God and you for all your help,” he said.
