Getting ready for school
Every day caring people like you
are helping us outfit needy children so they are prepared for school!
There are more children living
in poverty than you might know. A child is born into poverty every 46 seconds
just in the United States. Girls like Sarah. Boys like Logan.
A Prisoner’s Child
Sarah has experienced a lot of sorrow in her lifetime. The little girl
lives with relatives because her mother is in prison. Last summer Sarah
and her cousins participated in a shopping day at Wal-Mart
that was sponsored by Operation Blessing and partnering Texas ministry
Feed My Lambs. Given gift certificates, Sarah and the other children searched
through the aisles looking for school clothes and shoes. Much to her delight,
there were a few items with her name on them!
Breathing Easy
Over on the East Coast in South Bronx, Logan pledged to stay in school
and off drugs. As if living in a rough neighborhood
that harbored gangs and drugs wasn’t enough, the ten-year-old had
undergone surgery to remove one deformed lung. Slowed down but not stopped,
Logan and his younger brother received clothes, shoes, backpacks and school
supplies for the upcoming school year.
A Single-parent Home
Maria is a single mother of seven children. The family lives in a tiny
one-bedroom apartment in Santa Ana, California. Last summer Maria had
no idea how she was going to buy new or used uniforms for all of her children.
She had no choice. The school required students to wear them and the state
required children to attend school. The anxiety left this mother’s
heart when our local OBI center heard of the family’s need and provided resources so the mother could buy uniforms for every child.
No Coats, No Classes
Olga had been wearing the same old and worn coat for four years. Her sibling
Misha braved Kazakhstan’s biting winter wearing a very thin jacket.
The two other Bogdanov children didn’t have any winter outerwear.
Walking to school was often unbearably cold, forcing them to skip classes
until it warmed up. During last winter’s children's outreach program
in Kazakhstan, the Bogdanov family received four of the 350 coats that
were given to poor children living in areas around Almaty. Their grateful
mother wrote, “My husband is the only one working. Our family is
very grateful for your ministry to those who are in need. May the Lord
take care of you and meet all of your needs!”
$25 Helps A Child Prepare For School
Your gift of $25 can assist a boy or girl with supplies and a set of new
school clothes! A commitment of $75 can help a poor family get their three
children excited about the first day of school. How about helping an entire
summer school class containing ten children from the inner city? Your
generous donation of $250 can help them be ready for this fall too! Whatever
your gift today, you will be helping to give a child a brighter future
by giving him or her a chance to learn!
