Arthur Receives More Than Clothes
Arthur was so excited! With the help of a loving tutor at Aslan
Youth Ministries, the 8-year-old had learned how to read! This accomplishment
meant his classmates wouldn’t be able to make fun of him anymore.
See how hundreds of low-income New Jersey students like Arthur are benefiting
from our Bless a Child program.
When Arthur first came to Aslan Youth Ministries, he acted out frequently
and expressed frustration partly because he couldn’t read at all.
His mother Claudia was concerned about her son’s future. She didn’t
want him to hate school, but as a single parent struggling to provide
for three children, Claudia had a hard time providing for their basic
needs. Paying for a tutor’s services was out of the question.
This is why Aslan’s free tutoring program was so important to Arthur’s
success. As the Operation Blessing partner’s staff poured time and
love into him, the outburst became less frequent, and most importantly
he learned how to read. Arthur continued to excel when he acquired a scholarship
to attend a school that would have a better teacher-student ratio.
That’s not all! Aslan Youth Ministries reaches out to about 250
children throughout the year, and that includes Back-To-School shopping
days. Last year, Arthur picked out and bought basic clothes that his mom
couldn’t have afforded to buy him. He and his sisters have also
participated in Aslan’s summer camp program. This 3-week day camp
provides children with activities including bible devotionals, arts &
crafts, reading classes, and fields trips.
Aslan Youth Ministries has been a part of our Metro New York outreach
center’s network for an amazing twenty-four years! And they continue
to give impoverished boys and girls a chance to succeed. Arthur’s
life has taken a turn for the better; there are more just like him waiting
for help.
Don’t Leave Them Behind!
Your gift of $25 can send a promising boy or girl back to school with
the right supplies and/or new school clothes! A commitment of $75 can
help a poor family get their three children excited about the first day
of school. How about helping an entire summer school class of ten children
from the inner city? Your generous donation of $250 can help them be ready!
