Help Comes for Malnourished Sisters

Sisters Lili and Adriana can now eat nutritious meals and concentrate in school! More children can have this opportunity when you give to Gift # 4 in the Holiday Catalog.

Norma Liliana González Castillo is a big name for such a thin and shy 5-year-old. So she goes by Lili. The Mexican girl lives with her 7-year-old sister Adriana and parents. Every day Cándido and Conchita struggle to feed the girls a little bit of food and keep a roof over their heads. They didn’t know how things were going to get any better.

After many years of hard work, Cándido bought a truck. Companies contract his service and he delivers their construction materials. These jobs are more scattered then Cándido thought they would be. During the lull, he changes oil on cars.

As hard as he tries, Cándido only brings in 250 pesos or $22 a week; hardly enough for the family to live on. To make matters worse his pulmonary problem acts up often, making him to stay home for days at a time. Conchita has no choice but to feed her family homemade tortillas as well as sell the food on the street. But Lili and Adriana need more nutrition than tortillas have in them. The girls became so malnourished and were tired all of the time.

Operation Blessing’s outreach center in Mexico learned of the sister’s need and offered a helping hand. Now through our nourishment program, the girls receive nutritious food and vitamins. Conchita told us the last time she weighted her daughters; Lili had caught up with Adriana! Now the girls have enough of the right vitamins and minerals to be able to concentrate at school as well as play.

While her older sister is in public school, Lili also participates in our pre-school program. She is learning math, writing, reading, English and computer skills in an area where basic education is a luxury. Adriana's future looks bright too. Thanks to our partners she received a tuition scholarship and uses new school supplies and book bag every day.

Cándido says, “Please tell the people that are helping us so much that we are very thankful, and we really appreciate the way they take care of us. God will bless them because they are merciful.”

Join Us: Bless a Child
