The weekend's devastating earthquake in India took tens of thousands of lives.
Whole towns were destroyed. Hundreds of thousands of it's living victims are now
in a desperate struggle to survive cold nights without food, water, medical care
or shelter. Last Friday, the quake destroyed towns including Bhuj and Anjar, ended
as many as 100,000 lives, and left many children with out parents. As entire families
are being laid to rest, rescue workers continue to risk their lives in trying
to find any life in crumbling schools, homes, and other buildings. Those still
alive are in shock and despair. Recent CNN reports indicate many have not had
food or water since Friday!
OBI aid is on the way with a team from our partner, WorldReach, in Hyderabad, India, an area outside the earthquake zone. The team will assess and begin responding to the most critical needs. Plans also include sending a volunteer medical team from Hyderabad to areas that have lost their hospitals as well as following up with materials to assist in the rebuilding process.
"The short term need is extremely critical in the effort to rebuild," comments Dick Kohl, OBI's Director of Disaster Relief. "We don't know what kind of long term building efforts will be required at this time."
Traveling southwest, you can see that El Salvador's earthquake victims have begun to pick up their pieces. Thousands are still without shelter, and have lost everything.
The needs are desperate and we need your help to save the lives of the teror-stricken victims. Please help OBI in sending aid to earthquake victims in both India and El Salvador! The time is now!
And be sure to check back to this website to track the progress of OBI relief efforts in both of these terror-stricken regions.
