Tropical Storm Allison has come and gone. However, the clean up has just begun.
Many lives have forever been altered. Last week a Hunger Strike Force tractor-trailer
was dispatched from Chesapeake, Virginia and made way to the disaster zone of
Houston, Texas.
According to CNN, Tropical Storm Allison is to blame for "22 deaths in Texas and Louisiana, and nine in Florida. Approximately 20,000 homes and 5,000 other buildings in southeast Texas were damaged, at a cost estimated to reach $2 billion."
Thanks to OBI volunteers, 480 disaster
relief kits were a part of the truckload! Over time, dedicated volunteers
like you have put together plastic bags containing travel sizes of bandages, pocket
tissue, toothpaste, toothbrush, dental floss, shampoo, and soap, as well as a
comb, hand-towel, and a Gospel of John. Once assembled, kits are sent in to OBI
and stored for emergency situations such as Houston's flood! Partners have also
come to our East Coast warehouse and filled the disaster relief kits.
In addition to the disaster relief kits, more than 20,000 pounds of disinfectant and carpet cleaners, and over 1,000 blankets as well as batteries, lights, and fruit bars are being distributed to Houston's flood victims.
Thank you for helping Houston in their time of need!
