Afghan Relief Will Continue Into 2002

Posted: December 21st, 2001

OBI's relief worker is back in the field! He is busy coordinating the second month of soup kitchen activities in a Afghan refugee camp as well as setting up late December and early January food distributions in both Pakistan and Afghanistan with International Foundation of Hope. Your ongoing support of aiding the innocent is hard at work!

With the fall of the Taliban regime and more than twenty years of war, the danger of landmines in Afghanistan is real as well as the humbling reality of having to rebuild safe roads, hospitals, homes and schools. As the new Afghan government goes through the birthing process, humanitarian organizations including Operation Blessing (OBI) and International Foundation of Hope (IFH) will continue to work together through the new year in aiding the innocent.

An UNKCR spokesman reported recently of approximately 17,500 Afghan refugees returning to their homeland in a week. "Many of those returning...were clearly not the most destitute refugees," remarked Ron Redmond. "We caution Afghans not to rush back, nor should countries in the region rush any of the more than 3.5 million refugees home with winter upon us."

In partnership with a team from Singapore and IFH, OBI will distribute food to 1,000 Afghan refugee families next week. Another food distribution is planned for the first week of January. This will be the first time OBI will be able to help the people of war-torn Kabul. Five hundred families will receive aid. These packages may contain basic survival items including a bag of flour, rice, beans, oil, sugar and tea. Depending on the size of the family, the food can last 2-4 weeks and only cost $15 each!

Thanks to the generous support of many partners like you, the second month of OBI's soup kitchen in a refugee camp located in Pakistan will also begin next week. While waiting to return home, approximately 6,000 displaced individuals or 1,250 families will continue to receive their only six meals each week. It costs less than one cent for a hungry child to eat each hot nutritious meal!

This hunger relief project will not continue with out the financial support of you, our partner. Please give your year-end gift towards aiding the innocent today!

HOW YOU CAN HELP
