(Kabul, Afghanistan) -- In a time of great need, it just intensified for the second time this month! According to a CNN Tuesday morning report Afghan officials say nearly 5,000 people may have been killed by a pair of devastating earthquakes that struck the mountains in the northern part of Afghanistan.
Operation Blessing is on the scene, ready to assist.
On the ground in Afghanistan, OBI's relief worker experienced the aftershocks of yesterday's earthquake. He will continue responding to the increasing needs of Afhans' innocent victims as horrific conditions just became unimaginable.
It is estimated at least 4,000 are injured and 20,000 are homeless after the two tremors struck near the town of Nahrin in the Hindu Kush mountains. Numerous villages may have been leveled completly. This is on the wake of a 7.2 earthquake that hit Afghanistan earlier this month which killed an estimated 150 people, collapsed hundreds of homes, scattered flocks, and shook the hearts of Afghan women and children to the core. Both of these earthquakes pose enormous challenges in the already difficult task of rebuilding their lives and nation.
Having just completed a medical mission reaching widows and orphans, OBI is prepared to continue to assist in this most recent national catastrophy. After receiving an assessment of additional needs facing the innocent victims in this disaster and war weary land, OBI will respond with food, blankets, medical assistance or other relief supplies as we are able. Already, OBI has assisted in the region with medical care, food clothing and other necessities. With the help of OBI's generous supporters, over 6,000 hot meals are still being provided to families each day throughout the week.
These devastating earthquakes have made Afghan children and families even more vulnerable in an hour of great need. Your faithful support is required now more than ever.
Please assist us in aiding the innocent today!
