According to the local news, Fred and Judy's mobile home wasn't
supposed to be in the path of Hurricane Frances. Things changed on August
18th, when two police officers knocked on the couple's door. Even though
the news was telling them one thing, Fred and Judy were told the storm
would come right through their house! Within a matter of hours they packed
up and safely drove to their son's house in Sarasota!
In the early hours the next morning, Hurricane Frances changed course
and plowed through Fred and Judy's home. Miraculously, they were safe.
When danger had passed, the couple jumped into action; not for themselves,
but for their neighbors. Fred and Judy sought the help of OBI partner
Cyprus Cathedral in Winter Haven, Florida.
They were soon armed with a generator, chain saw and food for their neighbors.
Some of these terrified families hadn't left their dark and damaged homes
for four days! Hopeless, they didn't know what to do next.
Fred and Judy are among the many amazing people that Pastor Edwards
has met during Cyprus Cathedral's hurricane relief efforts. "This
has been a great time of difficult circumstances which God is turning
into a great time of blessing in our lives and many others," he commented.
"We're able to do more because OBI is helping us."
Our disaster relief efforts are far from over! You have helped us get
more than 4.7 million pounds of food, water and relief supplies into the
hands of hurricane victims living in Alabama, Florida, North Carolina,
Tennessee, Cuba, Jamaica, the Cayman Islands, Granada and Bahamas. Rebuilding
entire communities will take a long time. Please continue to help us assist
