Churches raising funds for disaster relief

Niger, Africa: Operation Blessing responded to the hunger needs of 3.6 million Nigerians by supplying 5,000 tons of food and constructing a food bank to ensure food security for future famines.
Since Hurricane Katrina slammed the Gulf Coast in 2005, OBI has funded millions in cash grants to local organizations,
provided hundreds of thousands of hot meals, opened free medical and dental clinics, and much more. With your

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. - Evangelist Billy Graham said it first in a Reader's Digest article in 1950.
Eight years later, civil-rights leader Martin Luther King, Jr. declared it. And today, many would still
affirm the statement made by these leaders that "eleven o'clock Sunday morning is the most segregated
hour in America."
But that will not to be the case for many churches on June 11. On this inaugural day, churches
nationwide will be participating in Operation Blessing Sunday to help raise money for disaster relief.
"We are crossing all kinds of borders and coming together," said Dean Nowotny, church relations
manager for Operation Blessing International.
Currently there are nearly 100 churches from 29 states and Canada that are participating in Operation
Blessing Sunday. From the Church for Cowboys in Texas to a Finnish Pentecostal church in Canada,
this multi-denominational group will take a special offering during Sunday services to help support
OBI's disaster relief efforts in the U.S. and around the world.
Each year OBI will choose a different program to highlight on Operation Blessing Sunday, Nowotny
said. This year's theme is "When God promises, ‘I will rescue you,' the privilege to help is
sometimes ours!"
"It's our privilege to be God's ambassadors and assist people in anyway we can," Nowotny said.
