Operation Blessing began relief efforts last Friday by funding the distribution of food, water and emergency aid to refugee families in Israel and Lebanon.
After 20 days of fighting, thousands of refugees are seeking safety by retreating to schools, churches and other shelters.
With businesses closed and limited access to food and public transportation, a humanitarian crisis is quickly developing for families trapped within the borders of the conflict.
OBI has partnered with "Tents of Mercy," and the Hiram Foundation to fund the delivery of 3,000 food packages as well as cooling fans and mattresses for families living in crowded shelters.
"These areas in Israel are very hard hit; there is no public transportation operating and there are no stores open," said OBI President Bill Horan. "We are having to purchase the products in the south and transport everything across the country, then door to door to the shelters."
Relief partners also delivered 1,000 hot meals to the local soup kitchen in Akko, Israel, and are helping people move out of the most dangerous areas to temporary shelters near Jerusalem.
In the region of Sidon, Lebanon, approximately 43 kilometers south of Beirut, OBI distributed emergency aid packages to refugees in the towns of Bramieh, Aabra and Salhieh.
The packages contain food (tuna, sardines, cheese, chocolate, pasta, hummus, beans, jam) and hygiene products (laundry detergent, sponges, tissues, toothpaste, wipes, garbage bags, soap and diapers).
Each package will sustain an average family for 2-3 days.
