SOUTHERN LEBANON - The recent conflict between Lebanon and Israel has left thousands of civilians in both countries without homes, food, water, possessions, or jobs.
Earlier this month, Operation Blessing International completed a distribution of 18 tons of food and 30 UNICEF water kits, reaching 27,800 people in devastated villages of Lebanon.
Distributed food items included beans, cheese, milk powder, and jam. The water kits will provide 150,000 liters of water on a regular basis to the nearly 30,000 people they serve.
“With no solution to the devastated water pipe and electricity supply in sight, these tanks have the potential to provide millions of liters of water to villagers throughout the region for weeks and months to come,” said David Darg, assistant director of international programs for OBI. Darg has been on the ground coordinating Operation Blessing’s relief efforts in the Middle East.
Touloussa, a village in Southern Lebanon with a population of 800, had been receiving water deliveries from the United Nations, but desperately needed a centralized storage solution. The mayor and villagers were delighted when two water kits were delivered and running within 24 hours.
With each water kit valued at $1,174, the total value of goods distributed is now over $65,500.
Operation Blessing worked in partnership with Humedica International, a humanitarian organization based in Germany, and local organization P.A.R.D (Popular Aid for Relief and Development) to distribute the supplies. The German Foreign Ministry also approved a budget to purchase hygiene items for a second round of distribution.
In addition, Operation Blessing doctors continue to treat an average of 460 people per week, providing much-needed medical care to those with no access to medicine or doctors.
