WEST JAKARTA, Indonesia - Santi watched as her home blazed in the night.
On August 21 and 22, a violent fire ripped through an alley neighborhood in the Tangki district of Mangaa Besar, a village in Indonesia's capital province of West Jakarta.
The fire, which began at approximately 7:30 p.m. on August 21 at a house beside the nearby Langgar river, destroyed the homes of some 300 villagers.
Operation Blessing quickly assembled an emergency response team comprised of four doctors, four paramedics, and two volunteer workers. A medical tent was assembled on location, while supplies such as milk, biscuits, and blankets were distributed to the victims.
Santi, a mother of two whose home was destroyed in the disaster, expressed both her shock and gratitude to Operation Blessing medical staff.
"It's all burnt,” she said. "And my children have been complaining about their illnesses – coughing, cold, and irritation. But thank God for Operation Blessing's doctors.”
