Greater New Orleans "Medical Recovery Week" Press Release

More than 400 doctors, nurses, dentists and other medical volunteers are working at the week-long event, Jan. 28 through Feb. 3.
Last year's medical week treated more than 9,600 patients and dispensed an average of 650 prescriptions a day.
NEW ORLEANS - Diabetic medication, cardiac care, pediatric advice and general primary healthcare are among the many medical specialties being offered free and open to the public at the "Medical Recovery Week" in New Orleans this week.

"We have put up approximately 20,000 square feet of tents, which are serving as vision, dental and medical exam rooms," said Jody Herrington, Operation Blessing's U.S. director of disaster relief.

Services at the event include free dental work such as fillings, root canals, cleanings and extractions; free eye exams and glasses; medical exams and primary healthcare; OBGYN, diabetic care, pediatrics and cardiology.

This is the second year OBI has teamed up with Remote Area Medical (RAM), International Medical Alliance (IMA), the New Orleans Health Department and the LA Department of Health and Hospitals to offer free medical care to local residents.

More than 400 doctors, nurses, dentists and other medical volunteers are working at the week-long event, Jan. 28 through Feb. 3.

Last year's medical week provided more than 9,600 medical services and dispensed an average of 650 prescriptions a day. Health organizers hope to have a bigger turnout this year, officials said.

In addition to the week-long medical event, OBI continues to offer care at both their medical and dental clinics located in New Orleans East located at 5501 Read Blvd. in New Orleans East.

Since April 3, 2006, Operation Blessing has provided free medical and dental services to more than 13,877 residents devastated by Hurricane Katrina and filled approximately 28,726 prescriptions.
