Operation Blessing medical teams in Aceh have treated more than 85,000 people since Dec. 28, 2005. In Banda Aceh, eight doctors, four nurses and three dentists are staffing 10 medical clinics and serving the surrounding areas.

Similar medical services are ongoing in Meulaboh, with nine doctors, three dentists and eight nurses working at the medical facilities. Six additional clinics are in place along the western coast. In certain areas, such as Rigah and Lhok Kruet, the OBI medical clinic is the only clinic available for the people.

Seven buildings have also been secured in Meulaboh to support OBI’s relief effort. These facilties are used for storage, housing, cooking, office space and pharmacies.

Rebuilding efforts also continue throughout Indonesia. Operation Blessing’s chartered barge is now loaded with 28,000 bags of cement and sufficient metal roofing and rebar to build 320 houses. It departed the port of Padang on the southwestern coast of Sumatra and arrived at the first offload site near Meulaboh on June 8. The barge is ready to be towed in, and the tug boat will maneuver it along side the dock. On land, additional preparations are taking place that involve the local authorities, harbor permission, hiring laborers and renting cranes and other necessary machinery.

About 5,000 bags of cement are scheduled to be unloaded tomorrow (June 8) in Meulaboh. It will take approximately one day to finish unloading before the barge sets sail again toward Rigah.
