Holiday Joy In The Face Of Life's Challenges
This time of year should be filled with love and laughter. It’s a time
of giving, celebrating, and thanksgiving – for most of us. However, the challenges of life
overwhelm others so they have nothing to give – they are barely hanging on. This was the case
for Milton, Julia and their family, until help appeared… Milton and Julia
have four children; three of whom suffer from a rare and deadly disease. Julia spends most of
her time caring for Anna, 16; Manual, 9; and Roberto 5, as they suffer causes like bone deformation,
irritated nerves, and the growth of brain and spinal cord tumors. This takes virtually all her
time and all their money.
Milton works hard to make ends meet but mounting medical bills and a slow-down at work last fall
made that impossible. Groceries were running low. Medical bills were over their heads and there
wasn’t anything left over for Christmas for their family. That’s when our outreach
center in Port Neches, TX heard about their situation and stepped in to help. Libby Arnold had
never seen a situation this desperate in all of her years of service. “Julia told me that
her strength is in the Lord, and without that faith she could not continue to live her life,”
commented Libby.
Bags of groceries, gift certificates to Wal-Mart and new toys were presented to Milton and Julia’s
family just in time for Christmas. It was the first reprieve they had received in a long time,
and it allowed them to really celebrate the season. Help didn’t end there. Our center continues
to support this family with groceries, counsel and friendship though out the year. Your gifts
let us reach this family and many others around the country, in their hour of need.
Last year our partners helped more than 300,000 lonely people around the world during our Holiday
of Hope program. Your generosity today can give struggling families something to be thankful for!
As you decide on how much to spend during the holidays, consider giving a portion to help a less
fortunate mom, dad or child with us this year. Your gift will bring joy to orphans, families,
the handicapped and the elderly here in the USA and around the world!
