Joblessness destroys lives. Under-employment can be just as devastating.
Without adequate income or meaningful work, families have trouble
taking care of simple necessities of life. It's a problem that plagues
people here in our country as well as overseas. Hunger, homelessness,
sickness, depression and stress are some of its’ direct results.
Every day men and women struggle to provide basic food and shelter
for their children. In some areas subsistence level jobs can be found
but limited training or resources leave people no hope for advancement.
Learning a marketable skill takes money. It’s a vicious cycle.
In other areas jobs just aren’t available so workers have to
create their own. The desire to work is there, they just need a hand
up.
People trapped in economically depressed communities need hope
and help to break free. Through Hope Works, Operation Blessing equips
them to work for a living. Sometimes it is through practical training
that has a positive lasting effect on their lives. Other times it
is by helping create small businesses or cooperatives that provide
jobs and generate income. Along the way we give them more than the
opportunity to work, we give them hope for a brighter future.
