Working Towards Independence in Wisconsin
Depression, panic attacks and alcohol abuse had been
a part of Jason’s life for far too long. At 30 years old he wanted
to have some stability in his life, but it was hard to take the first step.
In the past he had worked as a salesperson and quit after being asked to
do things outside of his job description. Then Jason became a night auditor
for a hotel, but left after being robbed. His parents asked him to give
up and survive off of disability checks for the rest of his life, but their
son was determined to succeed.
This past January the door of possibility opened up for Jason when he found
out about Operation Blessing’s partner, The Milwaukee Outreach Center.
By utilizing their life skills empowerment program called Phoenix, students
are inspired to hope, dream, as well as encouraged to become what they were
created to be while they receive career-life planning and job placement
assistance. After graduating from this interactive, 5-day intensive training
that simulated a regular 40-hour work week; Jason was motivated to apply
for the second phase called Equal Energy.
Equal Energy asks students to attend a weekly meeting, fill out at least
20 applications every week and find either a temporary part time job, spend
their time volunteering or work at The Milwaukee Outreach Center’s
Phoenix Enterprises. A local business provides this pilot micro enterprise
program with assembly work that requires putting together sanding disks
for the stainless steel industry.
Since Jason felt comfortable with assembly work, he chose the Phoenix Enterprises
option. Well on his way towards independence, Jason is pursuing long term
job options while he works there part time. With a desire to get married
some day, his goal is to first build a solid foundation. This man now has
a chance to become a vital part of society!
With the help of our partners, Phoenix and Equal Energy classes are currently
opening the eyes of numerous jobless and downtrodden people in Wisconsin
and Virginia. Thank you!
Make a Big Difference
So many people like Jason around the world desire to make a living, but
don’t how to fit in to the workplace or there is no workplace to fit
in to. Your gift $50 can give a South American family enough livestock to
be able to begin a profitable farm. $100 can train and equip a woman in
Africa or Asia to be seamstress. And just $150 can help an unemployed father
or mother in the USA begin the move from welfare to the workforce through
our 12-week Life Skills Empowerment program.
